The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that marriage and family life represent key elements of human existence. They are divinely appointed (see also Family).
A life within marriage and the family provides a prime opportunity for social and religious development for everyone who wants to perfect him/herself through following the divine laws and commandments.
According to Church teachings marriage and the resulting family relationships can endure eternally when established by the proper authority (Matthew 16:19) and when the required conditions are met.
