TITHING - FINANCES

The main source of income for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the tithing freely given by members of the Church.

The law of tithing, or the voluntary contribution of one tenth of one's annual income for the work of the Lord has been known since Old Testament times. Abraham paid tithes to Melchizedek (Genesis 14:17-20).

This money is used for:

  • The construction of temples, meetinghouses and other buildings
  • Financing the administration of the Church
  • Financing the missionary program
  • Providing teaching and other materials
  • Temple work, genealogy and many other important activities of the Church
  • Educational purposes.
