THE FAMILY

The central key of God’s plan for the eternal destiny of his children is marriage and the family. Based on His statement, “it is not good that the man should be alone” (Genesis 2:18), the purpose of marriage is togetherness. God also commanded that husband and wife should multiply within marriage and replenish the earth (Genesis 1:28), that is, that they should have children and found a family.

This is the theological basis for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as the Mormons, establishing and maintaining comprehensive programs and measures to promote marriage and the family. Regardless of all differences of culture and civilization, the Church of Jesus Christ succeeds worldwide in placing the value of the family centrally and emphasizing it, so that the lives of members of the Church are suffused with awareness that marriage and the family extend beyond death and are eternal.

Accordingly, the family forms the framework for the greater part of our personal development. There is love there, people teach and help one another and learn from one another. We share joy and sorrow. The family can cause people to be faced with difficult tasks, but it can also provide some of the happiest moments in life.

Like everything which is of value, family relationships require time and work.
